Caboolture Open – June 2018

Savannah and Connor flew to Brisbane to take part in the Caboolture Open, Connor competing in the Black Belt Cadet Male Poomsae and Savannah in the Coloured Belt Female Junior Division.
Connor competed against some very talented Black Belt Cadets with the division offering far more competitors than found in New Zealand. He seemed to up his game against the better competition, finishing the day in first place (Gold) – defeating last year’s champion (Silver). As this is Connor’s second year in the Cadets grade, we look forward to greater things.
Savannah was uncontested in her Kyorugi division, and was placed in a division with Red Belts. In the final, Savannah competed well, but blew out in the second round, and was unable to defend her lead in the third round. Now back in New Zealand, she has the choice to either increase her training and fitness, or stay at a “regional level” as a competitor.
The tournament was a very well run tournament, with International Referees and Judges controlling all the mats on the day (Poomsae and Sparring).
This is a tournament we will attend next year.
