Re: President’s May Update
Dear TNZ Members and Stakeholders,
I am pleased to provide this May Update for all members.
WTF MNA Development Funding Approval – Equipment
I am happy to report that TNZ has been approved under the WTF MNA Development Fund for much needed equipment expenditure up to the value of $5,000USD. The TNZ Executive Board is now reviewing equipment needs and options to ensure these funds are applied to the purchase of equipment that best serves the members and TNZ’s over-riding strategic plan. We will keep members informed on the outcome.
WTF Athlete Commission Representative – Robin Cheong
I am also very pleased to announce that our two-time Olympian Robin Cheong has been appointed onto the WTF Athlete Commission. Robin will also be joined on the Commission by Australian Olympian Ryan Carneli. Both will represent the Oceania region alongside representatives from all 5 continental Unions in advising the WTF Council on matters concerning athletes. The first meeting will be held in Muju, South Korea in June and we will pass on the outcomes. Congratulations to Robin on her appointment in this important role.
New Zealand Open Update
To date the number of Black Belt and colour belts competitors is well over 350. For TNZ overall this is a better than expected outcome for our hosting such a significant event the first time. Plans are already in the making for our hosting these official WTF-recognised events on a yearly basis to further enhance and develop Taekwondo in New Zealand and really put our country on the world stage. This is your chance to be part of the Global Taekwondo Community. We encourage you all to get on board.
Volunteers – Due to the bigger than expected number of entries, we are calling for volunteers to help out on both days of competition. This is a great opportunity to get involved with the running of a major international Taekwondo event. Volunteers will work alongside experienced international officials and some of the very best athletes from around the world. Each volunteer will also receive a certificate of participation and letter of reference for their help. If you or any of your members, including volunteers from your club, can spare one or two days over the weekend of the 13th & 14th May please email the Tournament Director, Master Jason Kim at: email@example.com
OTU Poomsae Judge & Coach Course & OTU Kyorugi Referee & Coach Course
The upcoming ‘OTU Poomsae Judge & Coach Course’ and the ‘OTU Kyorugi Referee & Coach Course’ will be held in Auckland on Friday 12th May, the day before the New Zealand Open. Times, venue and application details are in the attached information packages. Please note that TNZ members who successfully complete either course may apply to TNZ after the course to be reimbursed the course fee.
Interim District Boards Update
The application process for the Interim District Board positions has attracted a lot of interest and many applications which has been very encouraging to see. It is clear that members are embracing the positive changes we have made to the governance structure and want to be a part of this. Thanks to all those who have applied to date.
I would like to take this opportunity to reiterate that any prospective candidate for an Interim or elected District Board position must possess at least good management, organisational and communication skills. This will enable us to establish effective District Boards to help equip TNZ in moving the sport forward. In addition to this, please remember that the new Constitution provides ‘individual membership’ for people outside of Taekwondo to also apply, e.g., someone not belonging to a club but wanting to fulfill a position on one of the District Boards. For these reasons we are extending the application deadline for applying to be appointed onto the Interim District Boards to 5pm Friday 21st May. Please note that for your application to be considered you must provide a CV. Applications and CV’s should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org
